IF YOU DON'T BUILD YOUR DREAM, SOMEONE ELSE WILL HIRE YOU TO BUILD THEIRS!
|
Do you remember when the phrase YOLO (you only live once) came out and how repetitive it became? Yes, you only live once, but if I keep hearing people say YOLO, I will punch someone in the face!
My parents knew they would only live once and migrating to America in their late 30s meant they had a lot of work to accomplish since time is money and they definitely did not have time. My parents were in their 30s and has 6 kids, that's a disaster just waiting to happen! But one thing they knew for sure, they wouldn't have the same opportunity to be successful in Vietnam as they would in America. It was late 1980s and it it was illegal to flee Vietnam, you would go to jail if they caught you. So my family went at night instead! My dad described it as a boat big enough to carry 15-20 people. There were some people who didn't have money, but he let them go with us anyway. My dad and his brother steered and used a compass and the stars to find their way. When they finally found land, they didn't recognize my family as we were set to go to a refugee camp so they threw my dad in jail. It was later resolved, and this awesome child was born. Lucky for my parents I came out ALMOST perfect (I'm smiling like I did on the picture on the left). Please note that I am lucky to have awesome parents and that they taught money basics that I couldn't understand until now (more on that later). I say that's pretty good stuff for parent one who only went as far as 4th grade! That's not something I would brag about, but I just wanted to point out that people can be successful if they set their mind to it. However, parent two had a different approach on what I should do in life, I was told to go to school, go to college, get a degree, and work at a "nice" paying job. I was raised with two completely different teachings, it was very conflicting on which path I should take, then one day I found the answer! I know what I was destined to do, I am destined to build! |
"One of the greatest discoveries in the 20th century is that you can change your life by changing the way you think"
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
